The rule
Pricing tools stay in the campground's lane.
- They use only the campground's own data and public data.
- They never use other clients' private rates, occupancy or reservations, even if the data is pooled, anonymized or "de-identified" (stripped of names).
- Suggested prices aren't applied automatically unless the campground turns that on. It's off for every campground unless the campground itself turns it on.
- The campground can freeze prices during an emergency declared by a government.
What this looks like
The tool suggests raising weekend rates based on the campground's own past reservations. The manager sees the suggestion and decides.
If a wildfire evacuation is declared nearby, the manager can freeze prices with one setting.
Why
Software companies are adding AI pricing tools. In 2026, a rental-housing pricing software company settled a case by agreeing to stop using competitors' current private data to set prices, and to change its auto-accept features.
How it's checked
Software company
(a) and (b) are attested: the software company gives a signed statement, and the auditor records who signed it. This can't be checked from outside yet. (c) and (d): check the settings on a fresh account and a sample of live accounts (Appendix A, T16).
Pass
- The signed statement exists.
- Auto-apply is off.
- A freeze exists.
Fail
- There's no signed statement.
- (c) or (d) fails.
